Water Wheel – Don’t try to run flat!
We all know that drinking water is important to our overall health and will help us lose weight, yet most of us do not drink enough or even know how much we need. The body is largely made up of water, and when we don’t have adequate hydration, it gets pulled from the muscles for use in various bodily processes, leaving us sore, achy, cranky, and with symptoms of inflammation, digestive distress, and overall fatigue. With all of the conflicting information out there concerning water intake, we at Key Fitness try to keep it simple…

Key Fitness recommends drinking 6-8 glasses (or bottles) per day. If your goal is weight loss, you may have heard to drink immediately prior to eating meals to help curb appetite. While it is true that drinking water can reduce appetite and cravings, boost metabolism, and aid in fat-burning, drinking water immediately prior to ingestion, or even while eating, dilutes your digestive enzymes, and interferes with the digestive process. Whether your goal is significant weight loss, cleansing and detoxing, or simply losing that last 10 pounds, proper hydration and timing is imperative. Aim to drink a bottle immediately after waking. There are benefits to lukewarm water, and to iced water, so whichever you prefer is fine. Key Fitness (personal trainers in Murfreesboro) recommends including lemon and Apple Cider Vinegar (with the “mother”). Then, throughout the day, you should drink another bottle 30 minutes prior to fueling (Remember – food is “fuel” – not fun!), and another bottle about 30 minutes after eating.
While there is water in many other beverages, your coffee and your tea fix DO NOT COUNT toward your daily intake. In fact, I am going to take it a step further and say that every time you have a glass of tea or coffee, you need to follow it immediately with a glass of water.
